The level of harm reported in the Irish health service is comparable to other developed countries (approximately 12%). However, there is considerable room for improvement.

Similarly, while the interactions of most people are positive, a minority report a negative experience. Our services are subject to considerable demand that creates blocks to access that we are working hard to reduce.

We have a number of improvement programmes to reduce harm from pressure ulcers, falls, medication harm and detecting patient deterioration.

We are also working on the overall culture and health service work environment on leadership programmes, staff engagement, partnerships with patients and moving to a measurement for improvement approach for all our data.
