Introducing the WHO's Patient Safety Rights Charter Featured

On April 18, 2024, during the 6th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Chile, the World Health Organization (WHO) unveiled the Patient Safety Rights Charter. This vital document is a cornerstone of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, developed under the theme “Engaging patients for patient safety” and the slogan “Elevate the voice of patients!” on World Patient Safety Day 2023.

The Charter, a result of extensive collaboration with patient advocates, safety experts, and healthcare leaders, outlines ten essential patient safety rights. It provides guidance for countries to enhance healthcare practices and safeguard patient rights.

Emphasising the link between patient safety and broader human rights, the Charter calls for global adoption to ensure safe healthcare for all. As we celebrate World Health Day 2024 under the theme 'My Health, My Right.', the Patient Safety Rights Charter marks a crucial step towards universal health coverage and patient-centred care.
