ISQua, the International Society for Quality in Health Care, is a member-based, not-for-profit organisation which has been working to improve the quality and safety of health care worldwide for over 30 years. ISQua achieves its goal through education, knowledge sharing, external evaluation, supporting health systems and connecting like-minded people through our health care networks. Our extensive network of health care professional’s spans over 70 countries.
ISQua is committed to the improvement of Patient Safety, and the desire to place patient safety at the core of health care delivery.
ISQua believes that safe, high quality universal health care is a right for all people worldwide. ISQua supports the setting of standards for patient safety, the development of improvement and implementation initiatives; and external evaluation to support patient safety programmes. Underpinning this is the commitment to research, to understand new safety challenges that face people worldwide such as ageing and people with complex long-term conditions.
We actively support WHO programmes such as Universal Health Coverage, Quality Policy Development and the Medication Safety Challenge.
Patient Safety must be central to all initiatives to improve care. This requires placing people in control of their healthcare, enabling healthcare providers with the skills and knowledge and equipment to deliver safe care. This transformation requires a culture that facilitates transparency and openness.
ISQua has supported two Emerging Leaders from Lower-Middle Income Countries to be placed at WHO and have launched the Lucian Leape Patient Safety Fellowship for clinicians from Africa, Latin America and other lower-middle income regions, to be trained in patient safety.
ISQua supports WHO affirmation of global action on Patient Safety by improving systems, measuring and learning, educating for safety and developing a worldwide social movement for Zero Harm.
