Leading and Managing - Shining a Light on the "Dark-side" of Healthcare with Heather Shearer

We were delighted to host Heather Shearer for our ISQua Fellowship Programme live webinar in February on the topic of Leading and Managing - Shining a Light on the "Dark-side" of Healthcare.

Heather offers expertise in patient safety, quality improvement and human factors: leading, inspiring and developing others to make step change improvements to patient experience at local, regional and national levels. She works alongside staff in a wide variety of roles across the health and care system. Within the last year she has worked with undergraduates, health and care professionals, managers, very senior managers and Board Members. Heather works by combining her technical expertise with highly-developed relational skills. This means she can deliver to the highest standards whilst maximising the potential of others. She is an accredited Executive Coach (ILM 7) and a Strengths Deployment Inventory facilitator. She has a certificate in Online Learning Facilitation and completed Improvement Advisor training at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement a decade ago. Her PhD is in Psychology, from the University of Durham (2001). She brings a deep and wide local, national and international network and a passion for supporting health and care staff to maximise improvements to the ways that services are provided.

This webinar will explore the contribution that management functions make to the delivery of healthcare. We will draw on work by Kotter, Juran and others so that we can focus upon practical ways of delivering a high-quality, reliable healthcare service. You will be invited to share with each other your practical experiences and tips. Come and explore management vs leadership, hierarchies vs networks and assurance vs improvement.

The live version of this webinar was made available to our Fellowship Programme Participants. You can find out more about our Fellowship and activities here.
