In May 2019, WHO approved the resolution on Global Patient Safety Action on Patient Safety in the 73rd WHO Assembly (WHA). This resolution was developed under the strong leadership of Dr Tedros Adahanom Ghebreyesus WHO-DG; R.H. Jeremy Hunt, former Secretary of State for Health, UK; Sir Liam Donaldson, WHO Patient Safety Envoy; and many other passionate leaders through the previous Ministerial Summits on Patient Safety.

Joint Statement on Patient Safety

The International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and the International Hospital Federation (IHF) attended the World Health Organization (WHO) Consultation on Global Patient Safety 2020-2030 in Geneva, Switzerland, from 24th - 26th February 2020.

I am delighted to share with you that the WHO Executive Board (EB) 144th session deliberated on the agenda item ‘Global action on patient safety’ on 31 January 2019; and adopted the EB Resolution ‘Global action on patient safety’ (including the establishment of an annual World Patient Safety Day on 17 September) on 1 February 2019; and recommended it for adoption at the World Health Assembly (WHA) in May 2019. This marks the achievement of a major milestone in the global patient safety movement.

Latest Experiences at WHO Headquarters

How time flies? Some Two months ago when I started my interning at the WHO headquarters my supervisor cautioned me that I have to make every moment count as the three months allocated for my internship can be so short. And indeed, the time has gone by just like the snap of a finger. Here am I reflecting on the last few weeks of my stay in Geneva.
